Inspiration Trust is delighted to announce that, in collaboration with the University of East Anglia (UEA), they have been granted £1.98million of funding by The Maths Excellence Fund.

Competition for the funding was strong, and the Inspiration Trust is thrilled that their programme was approved as one of only four providers in the country. The Inspiration Trust Maths Central team and UEA will work with ten schools and two colleges across Norfolk and North Suffolk from five different multi-academy trusts (MATs), on an enhanced maths provision and support scheme for students.

As part of the application process, the Maths Central Team, in a joint endeavour with the UEA, designed a comprehensive programme to create a strong and well supported Maths Community. The programme includes Maths clubs at KS3; online Further Maths GCSE provision at KS4; tutoring and mentoring at KS5 plus individual support for parents and carers.

Starting in September 2024, and running for 5 years, the aim is to create a self-sustaining programme that develops the tools and skills necessary for staff and parents to provide maths support to students that continues long after the project is scheduled to end.

The Maths Excellence Fund has been established to support schools to improve student attainment and progression in maths from ages 11 to 16 and 16 to 18, increasing the number of students on track to succeed in A‑Level maths, and beyond. The Fund supports schools to help students join and stay on a pathway of maths excellence, with a particular focus on high potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds, for whom studying maths can unlock significant opportunities.

CEO of Inspiration Trust, Gareth Stephens said:

“This is a fantastic outcome. Our maths provision continues to prove to be one of the best in the country, consistently providing excellent opportunities for young people within our trust, and outside of our family of schools. I am looking forward to seeing the impact of the funding.”

Director of Maths, Nicola Coe said:

“This is a wonderful opportunity to develop a love of maths in our local community, we are excited to be given the opportunity to work beyond our trust.”

Working with the Maths Excellence Fund extends the commitment to maths education already established by the Inspiration Trust, which hosts the Angles Maths Hub, based at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form. The Angles Maths Hub promotes excellence in maths teaching in Norfolk and Suffolk, and is part of the national network, backed by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics. The core purpose of Maths Hubs is to help schools and colleges lead improvement in mathematics education in England.
